Open day is the largest recruitment and outreach event on the calendar for The University of Western Australia, and Icon AV was proud to play a significant role in assisting the university and its staff attract new students! Situated alongside the picturesque Matilda Bay in Crawley, UWA's stunning campus played host to over 18,000 people over the course of the day attracting everyone from prospective students to families to alumni.
The project starts well and truly in advance, almost 6 months ahead of the event date. Because our job involves supplying AV throughout the entire event, we stay in the loop from the beginning so that at any point in time when new activations are planned or site layouts change, we're ready to respond and quickly think up new or adjusted solutions.
The main area we assisted with was the Student Life stage where prospective students and their families could listen in on presentations and panel discussions from current students and staff about the details of life at UWA, and how to make the most of it. We provided staging, LED screen, audio and lighting as well as technicians for the day.
Stage: 6m x 3.6m with an additional riser at the rear to neatly raise the screen.
Vision: 3.5m x 2m high definition LED screen, with full presentation package including laptops, wireless presentation remotes, vision mixer and on-stage comfort monitor.
Audio: KV2 Audio 'ES' sound system with industry standard Shure ULXD wireless microphones and X32 digital mixing console. We also provided an awesome Catchbox microphone!
Lighting: Front of stage LED wash lighting for a consistent look on a cloudy day!
Next was the brand new EZONE engineering building, just opened at the date of the event. Here attendees could take tours to explore the state of the art facility, and tune in to panel presentations on what the building and faculty had to offer. We made use of the recently installed projectors and screens to provide an integrated solution including stage, audio, vision and technician.
Vision: Full presentation package including laptops, vision mixer, comfort monitor and wireless presentation remotes - all integrated with the installed projectors and screens.
Audio: High quality Electro-Voice powered speakers with industry standard Shure ULXD wireless microphones and digital mixer.
Stage: Compact 30cm high stage with a sleek carpet finish.
Additionally in the EZONE building we provided four 55inch commercial display TVs to supplement some real engineering demos. We provided another five of these TVs around the campus including in the college marquee where residential colleges made use of them to highlight life living right next to the main campus.
Also scattered around the campus were numerous DJ and speaker setups including at the Beats and Eats food truck zone, Reid library, the student experience marquee and the main future students information marquee. We use high quality powered speakers and industry standard Pioneer DJ equipment.
Lastly, we moved over to the beautiful Oak Lawn to set up a live music stage amongst the stunning (and massive!) oak trees. The Student Guild and student clubs were posted nearby to showcase the parts of life at university that aren't just lectures and exams, and the music provided some great atmosphere. We supplied everything for this stage including audio, lighting and stage.
Audio: High quality powered sound system with foldback monitors for the musicians, microphones and other band/DJ equipment, digital mixer and audio technician.
Lighting: Coloured LED wash lighting to provide a little bit of eye candy for those watching on.
Stage: Compact 30cm high stage.
Large events can be a complex task to manage, but our team worked effectively to handle the few minor bumps that presented themselves and we successfully delivered a high quality full production service.
