Melville Midwinter is the City of Melville's annual winter solstice event at Dyoondalup, Point Walter in Bicton. Audiences move through a series of performance stations after dark, featuring live music, storytelling and performance. The City needed a technical partner to bring a dispersed outdoor site to life, with each station's artist and technical requirements met, and the whole site lit for creative effect and the safe movement of patrons along walkways in winter darkness.
Over three months we worked with the City's events team on a full technical specification built around each artist's requirements and the overall lighting design, and provided the complete production for the Finale Mainstage. Each station was treated as its own audio zone, with speaker selection, placement, orientation and level planned so every performance held its own without bleeding into neighbouring stations.
The lighting design served two purposes: creative lighting for each artist's work and the site-wide design, and pathway and access lighting to keep patrons safe moving between stations. We prepared station-by-station technical documentation and a full itemised quotation for the City's sign-off ahead of bump-in.
Sound separation and the balance between creative and safety lighting were resolved at the design stage and verified on site during bump-in, and the 2026 event, the most technically complex to date, was delivered without a hitch. Eight ICON AV crew worked across planning, bump-in, show operation and bump-out, using QSC, Allen & Heath, Yamaha and KV2 audio, CKC moving heads, grandMA3 control and Lumen Radio wireless DMX.
