Water Dragons was a headline aquatic art installation and live performance at Hillarys Boat Harbour, presented as part of the City of Joondalup's Joondalup Festival from 15 March to 5 April 2025. The lighting needed to provide safe public access throughout the three-week run while also delivering theatrical lighting for the live performances, with all temporary structures safe and compliant in a busy waterside public space.
One lighting rig served both purposes, which avoided a second system and kept structures on site to a minimum. The lighting was mounted on scaffold towers engineered and certified for the site, and we supplied the power distribution and cabling to the production elements across the towers. We engaged licensed contractors for flame pyrotechnics, and for generators and Form 5 electrical certification, and submitted risk management plans, site plans, exclusion zone planning and independent structural certification to the City ahead of installation.
The installation operated for the full festival period, with public safety for the electrical installation and pyrotechnics addressed and documented. The event drew crowds of thousands every evening.
